World of Shotaro Ishinomori
Genshi Shonen Ryuu

Ryu the Cave Boy (原始少年リュウ Genshi Shōnen Ryū) is a Japanese manga and anime series produced by Shotaro Ishinomori, as the second installment of his Ryu Trilogy.

The anime was originally planned as an adaptation of the original The Way of Ryu manga, but Toei opted to change the setting to a prehistoric era to be more accessible and Ishinomori crafted the manga as a media mix tie-in. The manga itself also had a prototype in that of Ishinomori's older one-shot Saran the Cave Boy.

Plot[]

In prehistoric times, a white-skinned boy named Ryu was found and raised by the ape-woman Kitty. Upon learning of the existence of his mother, whom he has never met, Ryu sets out on a journey to find her, accompanied by Ran, the daughter of the Ootsuno clan. During his journey, Ryu encounters many hardships, including a battle with the King of Dragons, but he perseveres through them.
