World of Shotaro Ishinomori

Minotaur (ミノタウロス Minotaurosu, lit. "Minotauros") is a member of the Mythos Cyborgs, appearing in Tsuguo Okazaki's Cyborg 009 BGOOParts Delete. He is, in a sense, a continuation of the original manga character but with some new added settings.

Appearance[]

As with his original self, Minotaur is a cybernetically-modified man dressed in a white chiton and cloak, accessorizing with gladiator sandals as well as golden arm and wristbands. From the neck up though, he has the head of the legendary Minotaur.

Personality[]

Minotaur is a driven, brutal competitor, not wanting to fail like he did last time, and this time around making sure to make use of abilities that the 00 Cyborgs hadn't even known he possessed.

Relationships[]

005/Geronimo Junior[]

Minotaur is 005's rival in battle this time around, with the two being a good match for each others' super-strength, though Minotaur introduces his "Labyrinth" ability in the fight to try to gain the upper hand. It is 005's sheer strength and having broken one of his horns that cause Minotaur to fall.

002/Jet Link[]

It is thanks to the teamwork of 005 and 002 that Minotaur is defeated, when 002 manages to pull 005 out of the darkness to intervene.

Abilities[]

As with before, Minotaur has metallic, robotic horns that can be quite dangerous and fire off lasers. But when it comes to his battle with 005, he prefers to make use of his "Labyrinth", casting a force field of darkness that he uses to envelop 005 and himself within.

History[]

In 1967, the tensions in Greece and its government had led to a military coup. In the midst of all the issues caused by the country's part in WWII, its Civil War, and ensuing events, one particular group of citizens had suffered many terrible hardships and extreme poverty. The Black Ghost scientists Dr. Gaia and Dr. Uranus would approach them with an offer to become "Gods", promising them power and the ability to take revenge on those that oppressed them. These people, including the individual that would become Minotaur, gladly accepted.

A year later, the Mythos Cyborg team would battle against the 00 numbers on Magma, but the destruction and sinking of the island left the 00 side believing that all the Mythos members had perished. In fact, Hera was instructed to teleport all of them at the last minute to a secret laboratory of Gaia's, though she paid for this with her own life in the process.

50 years after that fateful but interrupted battle, Minotaur and the rest of his team would awaken in their stasis pods and be summoned to their new attempt at conquering the world. This would come with the seeming return of the 00 Cyborgs though, or rather versions of them from another world (where it was still the 1970s) that had traveled to this one to eliminate any lingering "OOParts" of the Black Ghost organization.

Minotaur would do battle against the team again, though with growing sick of the Zeus System constantly reviving him and treating him and the rest like Gaia's regenerating robots, he and his teammates would destroy the stasis pods to ensure the stakes in the battle would be permanent and they'd be able to have more of their own choice in living or dying. Unfortunately, Gaia's battle robots Athena and Ares would make sure that the Mythos Cyborgs would indeed die, turning their destructive powers on all of them.

Trivia[]

  • The only possible appearance of Minotaur's former human self can be seen in the panel detailing the Greek citizens' past: all are depicted in silhouette with very few (Apollo, Helena, and a young boy that is likely Pan) being immediately recognizable. In addition to this, there is the detail by Tsuguo Okazaki that all were meant to be Jewish, but as he was not allowed to specify that part, it would remain a piece of information that would exist outside the text itself along with any specific ideas (if they existed) of what Minotaur and the others' names and lives were like before their conversion.
