Achilles is one of the Mythos Cyborgs appearing in Tsuguo Okazaki's Cyborg 009 BGOOParts Delete. He is, in a sense, a continuation of the original manga character with some new settings.
Appearance[]
As with before, Achilles is a tall man with a black, furry bipedal body and the very head of a panther. Like the others on his team, he wears a chiton, cloak, gladiator sandals, and gold arm and wrist bands. He carries about a sword and a shield.
Personality[]
Achilles is determined for a rematch against Cyborg 009, not wanting to lose again and being very vocal about how he wants this event to be his, but must contend with the fact that Apollo also lays claim to wanting to face off against that same man.
Relationships[]
009/Joe Shimamura[]
Having recalled his humiliating defeat and death against 009, Achilles greatly desires a victory with this new chance. With the two teams having to fight to the death and the 00 Cyborgs having their stated goal to erase the Mythos team, Achilles will stop at nothing to kill this other cyborg.
Unfortunately for Achilles, he is blocked and fought by Apollo over this momentarily, but he and 009 do face off again with it ending in his defeat; Joe shoots him through the chest.
Apollo[]
Apollo is able to fend off Achilles, stopping him from killing 009 but only because he wishes for his own rematch.
Abilities[]
Like before, Achilles can use his shield to absorb heat, which he attempts to when Apollo fires off his heat lasers at him. He continues to have acceleration switches in his heels, though he finds that try as he might, 009 still has a much better acceleration ability.
History[]
In 1967, Greece's government had experienced a coup and its impoverished citizens were desperate. A group of at least 12 of these people were approached by Dr. Gaia and Dr. Uranus, with the promise that they could become "Gods" and take revenge on those who had oppressed them. One of these men would be remodeled into Achilles, the speedster of the Mythos Cyborg team.
After his original death vs. 009 on Magma, Achilles' body was secretly collected and teleported away by Hera when the island began to sink. Dr. Gaia would seal away his fallen cyborgs, vowing to repair and strengthen them for when he wanted to strike again.
50 years since the sinking of Magma, Achilles and the other Mythos Cyborgs would wake back up, being summoned for their new mission to take over the world. Unfortunately for them, this would come with the revelation that the 00 Cyborgs from another world had arrived to theirs, on a mission to eliminate any lingering remnants of Black Ghost.
Achilles would be eager to face 009 once again, but once more fall and be unable to surpass him. He would be continuously revived by Gaia's Zeus System through the battles, but would become frustrated by this, and the Mythos team would destroy the pods so that they would have their own agency in whether they would live or die from that point.
Achilles and several of the other Mythos Cyborgs would ultimately die due to the superior power of Gaia's battle robots Athena and Ares.
Trivia[]
- While Okazaki was not allowed to identify the exact type of Greek citizens in the text, Achilles and the other Mythos Cyborgs are intended to have been members of the surviving Jewish population. The silhouettes of Apollo and Helena are most obvious in the panel showing these people, though any indication of who Achilles originally was is left vague, unless there are other details that Okazaki had in mind that didn't make it into the manga.
